Divination

The 卜 (bu, “divination”) art answers a single question at a single moment. Where a destiny chart is fixed at birth, divination casts a fresh chart for the moment the question is asked: the I Ching oracle throws a hexagram for the situation, and the San Shi (三式, “three cosmic boards”) — Tai Yi, Qi Men Dun Jia and Da Liu Ren, the classical top tier of the art — each lay the moment out on a board that turns with time.
